Exploding Elephant

A cannon ball explodes an elephant in the Oswald cartoon “Great Guns” (1927). The ball rattles around inside the elephant first.

The gag doesn’t end with the explosion. The elephant’s feet are left behind to run away on their own.

Finally, so does the elephant’s tail Oswald is holding.

Walt Disney gets the only credit on this silent cartoon.

  1. Although this would be fairly common fare when i was little, it couldn't be shown now.

  2. I'd love to know who animated this bit (Ben Clopton?)
