Hey There, What's That Sound?

The plot of Tex Avery’s Cock-a-Doodle Dog (1951) is pretty simple. Spike tries to sleep. A rooster obsessively crows. Spike tries to silence the rooster.

In this scene, Spike tries to contain the rooster in a box. It doesn’t work. See the take below.

The animation is alternated so that Spike moves, then the next frame the rooster moves.

Spike thinks he's solved the problem. Here's another take.

Mike Lah, Walt Clinton and Grant Simmons are the animators, and Rich Hogan worked on the story. Backgrounds are by the uncredited Johnny Johnsen.
