Art Davis made some fine Daffy Duck cartoons and this is my favourite of his, Don Williams, Bill Melendez, Emery Hawkins and Basil Davidovich animate, with the story credited to Bill Scott and Lloyd Turner.
This has got to be my favorite gag in a WB cartoon. I still crack up every time. It’s so out of nowhere!

ReplyDeleteI always regretted that Warner Bros. shut down the fourth unit and merged it with the other three. Davis had a lot of Clampett's craziness without overdoing it. As he showed with "Bowery Bugs," he had a nice handle on the main star character.
ReplyDeleteIs it just me, or did Art Davis animate some shots in his own cartoons? There are scenes in this one and others that seem like pared-down examples of his wilder animation - like when Elmer and the fox approach from either side. Plus a good chunk of “Bye Bye Bluebeard”.
