Smearing Bogie
The pie scene with Bugs and Elmer in Slick Hare is one of my two favourite pieces of timing in a Friz Freleng cartoon (the other is Sam’s brick wall smash in Bugs Bunny Rides Again) but there’s a great smear drawing, too.

Oh, You're right. The timing in the pie scene was perfect. And the ending; " If it's rabbit baby wants..It's rabbit baby GETS!! " followed by whistles and barks. Elmer seemed to get he was being played after two rounds of pies. Yosemite was so dogmatic, he may have kept falling for it until he ran out of pies. Kind of like the ladder gag with Bugs and Yosemite, climbing, and falling over and over and over-Ha!. Of course, Elmer wasn't above that type stuff, either. Would have been interesting.
ReplyDeleteSam's short fuse does him in. Fudd is just gullible and when he does catch on, he really can't match Bugs' brainpower to do anything about it.
DeleteEverything seems right in "Slick Hare." Friz was at his best at this point. I remember loving this cartoon when I was a kid as well, watching it on WGN.
