Gorelick is credited with only seven cartoons for the Friz Freleng unit, and then he is replaced by Tom O'Loughlin. We wrote about him in this post.
Maybe the best part of Warren Foster's story in this cartoon is naming the forgetful antagonist after Chuck Jones. Many of the gags are reminiscent of ones you've seen in other Bugs Bunny cartoons.
June Foray is here with her Marjorie Main voice as Mrs. Wolf.
Having enjoyed a museum exhibit of Irv Wyner's backgrounds once, I can only say (however hesitantly, since it seems every time my blasphemous little fingers hit this keyboard, someone's offended) that it's a shame that animation backgrounds aren't on display more often.
ReplyDeleteAs a side note, Frances Pohl wrote about Ben Shahn, a socially conscious artist who was around in Gorelick's time, and one of my dearest friends wrote a dissertation on Shahn. It would be interesting to see about connections.
ReplyDeleteOn a more amusing note, I noticed the Charles M. Wolf right away, though I think the classic in that vein is Pizzicato Pussycat, where "John and Vi" have the last name of Jones and are great caricatures of Chuck and Dorothy. These cartoons might be revenge for I. Frisby in The Hasty Hare.
Huh. I never thought of the caricatures in those cartoons as being Chuck and Dorothy Jones caricatures. Jones' caricature doesn't really look like his caricature in A Waggily Tale.
