Termite Terrace

You’ve seen the photo for years—a frame grab from a home movie of Termite Terrace with Bob Clampett, Chuck Jones, Sid Sutherland, Virgil Ross and Tex Avery, standing in the doorway of the ramshackle little building where Leon Schlesinger originally housed their new unit.

Part of that home movie was featured in Bugs Bunny Superstar (1975). There are other shots besides the famous one we all know. Here is one below.

Does anyone know who these people are? (No guesses, please).

Avery’s unit included assistant animators Bobe Cannon, Elmer Wait and Cecil Surry. I believe that’s Surry standing at the far right. I don’t see Cannon here; he and Surry both ended up at UPA. Wait died fairly young.

(A note a propos of nothing: This poor post has been sitting in my system since the end of 2012 and I am finally getting it on-line).

  1. On Facebook, recently, there was a posting of a 1934 Lantz studio group with nearly all of the personnel, including Surry, identified. See if you can read this: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10160139503698345&set=gm.1940574159411635&type=3&theater . I'm fairly certain that Wait's caricature was in one of Jones' memoir books, but I don't have it in front of me at the moment.

All I remember from "Bugs Bunny Superstar" is Bob Clampett's black wig in the contemporary segments. What could have possessed him?
