When Tex Avery packed up at the Leon Schlesinger studio, he took a whole pile of gags with him to MGM and perfected them.

Here’s a really good example from “Dangerous Dan McFoo” (1939) which has several things Avery would do a lot better at Metro in “The Shooting of Dan McGoo” (1944). Here’s what the dog does when he spots the saloon girl for the first time. He stops and stares, his head turns around, then it stops and he stares some more while his hat twirls in mid-air.



Here’s how Avery handled the wolf in the MGM cartoon. The eyes stretch, pop out of their sockets and check out the babe.
