He's in There

Seagoing Sam’s stool-pigeon parrot keeps revealing Bugs Bunny’s hiding place in Buccaneer Bunny, squawking “He’s in there! He’s in there!” Finally Bugs offers Polly a cracker. A firecracker.

“Me and my big mouth,” Polly mournfully tells us in the audience just before passing out and dropping from his perch.

Mike Maltese and Tedd Pierce combined on the story for this 1948 cartoon from director Friz Freleng.

  1. This gag turns up again with some modifications in a Lippy the Lion cartoon "Sea-Saw." Mel Blanc must've had deja vue as he played the parrot in both cartoons.

  2. Mel Blanc also regularly played a parrot named Polly on the radio version of the "Jack Benny Program" during the late 1940s and into the early 1950s. All of these episodes are available to download on various websites. Not sure if this cartoon was before or after Blanc's first appearance as Polly on Jack Benny.

  3. Polly first appeared on the Benny show in October 1945.
