Catmonkeylionthing

Scary morphing characters and skeletons were nothing unusual in early Fleischer sound cartoons. One was “Betty Boop’s Penthouse” (1932) with animation by Willard Bowsky.

Here, a cat drinks some kind of formula and turns into monkey, then grows hair and becomes a lion.



Then it becomes some kind of horned thing. Here’s the transformation, one drawing per frame. Thanks to Devon Baxter for the frames.



Yes, there are skeletons in this one, too (plants have skeletons, we learn), and some pansy jokes.
