Olive Oyl’s in the way, but look past her and enjoy the buildings in the background of this scene from “Let’s You and Him Fight” (1934). The Fleischer cartoons of that time are full of street scenes where everything looks like it’s melted.

ReplyDeleteIt seems like the backgrounds here were warped - or warped moreso than usual -- to go along with the motion of Olive running in front of them. The exterior house shot just as she's leaving has less of a Silly Putty look to it than the ones she passes.
