Porky tries to shake off the biting Butch in Brother Brat (1944). The child turns into multiples. Here are some of the frames.
Art Davis gets the animation credit in this Frank Tashlin cartoon. Tubby Millar wrote the story, which includes a baby version of Esquire that's pretty creepy.
Tashlin was into putting angles on his characters before just about anyone was into it, including the future founders of UPA. It would have been interesting to see how that style would have developed, moving forward into the late 1940s and early 50s, where stylized imagery became the cutting-edge norm, if Frank hadn't decided to go write for the Marx Brothers and Bob Hope.
ReplyDeleteCould this cartoon be the first use of the "beat the kid with the child psychology book" gag?
ReplyDeleteDidn't Disney do it with Donald Duck first, or am I misremembering?
DeleteOne of the rare occasions where Porky wears pants
ReplyDeleteIt sure looks like an Art Davis directed Porky!:) Mel,of course as the stuttering pig and I think either Bea Benaderet or Sara Berner as the Blickheed Rosie the Riveter type mother.:) Fun cartoon. Mairzy Doats get sa nod in the child raising book lol.SC:)
ReplyDeleteSteve, the Porky designs remind me of Davis but I don't know who was responsible. I was hoping someone reading might have an idea.
