Lassoing a River

Life was not easy for pioneers heading West, we’re informed by the narrator of Homesteader Droopy (1954). “There were wide rivers to cross.” Director Tex Avery and gagman Heck Allen toss in a sight gag.

The animators in this short are Mike Lah, Grant Simmons, Walt Clinton and Bob Bentley. Your narrator is Paul Frees.

  1. They did the same gag in " Gorilla My Dreams ". Bugs and Gruesome are separated by a cliff. Bugs starts taunting Gruesome. Gruesome takes a rope and pulls the cliffs together, leaving Bugs right in his face.

    1. Isn't there a Fleischer Popeye where they do the same type of thing?

    2. Actually, Gruesome pulls the cliffs together in that cartoon's sequel made eleven years later, APES OF WRATH. ("My, what big muskles you've got.")
