A variation of the Sketch appeared in WE'RE NOT MARRIED, Fred Allen doing it with Ginger Rogers this time.antoniodhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08484223213688377817noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3738012638904762739.post-18915635883012141182016-12-16T06:18:40.372-08:002016-12-16T06:18:40.372-08:00The canary routine in this was lifted right from D...The canary routine in this was lifted right from Dorothy and Dick.Yowphttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09264605351878574044noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3738012638904762739.post-87853343480811127652016-12-15T19:11:44.787-08:002016-12-15T19:11:44.787-08:00There were quite a few husband-and-wife morning sh...There were quite a few husband-and-wife morning shows on NYC radio then, such as Tex McCrary & Jinx Falkenburg, and Dorothy Kilgallen & Dick Kollmar - a genre ripe for parody. Decades later, Lee Kalcheim would celebrate that era in his play "Breakfast with Les & Bess."rnigmahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01370724366178429029noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3738012638904762739.post-66288284507309982312016-12-14T16:37:41.272-08:002016-12-14T16:37:41.272-08:00After reading Fred Allen's missives to and fro...After reading Fred Allen's missives to and from Groucho Marx in "The Groucho Letters," my introduction to Fred's humor was this sketch as presented on a generic "Golden Age of Comedy" LP. Quite startling, to say the least.Steve Baileyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07460010481523481647noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3738012638904762739.post-79482811476144068472016-12-14T15:43:54.159-08:002016-12-14T15:43:54.159-08:00One of my favorite sketches from Allen's show....One of my favorite sketches from Allen's show. He and Bankhead repeated it a few years later on THE BIG SHOW, an overblown 90-minute radio variety show she hosted in the early 1950s. I can take about any of Allen's sketches short of One Long Pan, the Charlie Chan parody he did for years (and years). Aside from being offensive, every one of those Long Pan sketches was the same damn thing. Same construction, same jokes, and minor variations on the same jokes.Randyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15379347437356224979noreply@blogger.com
