My father was an advertising manager at GE and he needed a small body to go w/the the huge head the art department made for the bowling campaign. Bill Bunetta was the pro bowler. I had to go in a convertible from Nela Park to the bowling alley. So was almost a commercial for itself.

Just wondering... Can anyone draw a line of continuity between the early 1960s cartoon series, THE FUNNY COMPANY and the animated commercials from the same time period (c.1965) for OSCAR MAYER WEINERS? ("I wish I was an Oscar Mayer Weiner") They have the same group of "marching kids" and the two "themes" have the same "marching cadence." Wondering if they were done by the same animation outfit? I can't seem to find any information on the Oscar Meyer commercial animation. Who made the TV ads?

Was there also not a "show" of sorts for the animated Oscar Meyer Weiner Kids? Seems to me we would see it either BEFORE or as part of CAPTAIN KANGAROO in the 1960s. The two are almost twins separated at birth...

And if we want to add quadruplets... Other similar jingles of the same era with kids choruses... "We're having Beefaroni..." and "My Dogs Better Than Your Dog." (for KenLRation dog food.)

And add to that... THE FUNNY COMPANY was a precursor of HOT DOG (NBC c.1970) with live actors (Woody Allen, Jonathan Winters, Jo anne Worley) providing wrap-around segments for educational and "how they make... (various products)"- type films.

THE FUNNY COMPANY is currently viewable on the religious cable channel THE SMILE
OF A CHILD NETWORK. I'm literally watching it as I type!

BTW… You can get the entire HERCULES series on DVD for pennies at:
http://www.mediaoutlet.com
*_*_*
Questions?/Comments? * This Has Been e-mail From:
"Dr. Mark" Hill * The Doctor Of Pop Culture /*/ drmark7@juno.comDr Marknoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3738012638904762739.post-17349443614919207822014-06-14T18:33:35.544-07:002014-06-14T18:33:35.544-07:00UHF TV pretty much saved a lot of these from disap...UHF TV pretty much saved a lot of these from disappearing too quickly.Chris Sobieniakhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09838106041175506925noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3738012638904762739.post-19638224715625651192014-06-14T18:32:13.845-07:002014-06-14T18:32:13.845-07:00I suppose after that second batch, NBC Films was l...I suppose after that second batch, NBC Films was like, "Oh, we have enough, that's all!"Chris Sobieniakhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09838106041175506925noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3738012638904762739.post-20357092788828667472014-06-14T18:20:00.021-07:002014-06-14T18:20:00.021-07:00Interesting about the 7 Arts production. In Japan, Astro Boy (Mighty Atom) debuted on New Years Day 1963, airing every Tuesday evenings on Japan's Fuji Television network. That ad was announced in April 1, 1963. Going by the original Japanese episode guide and airdates, only 13 episodes were broadcast by that date in its home country. So NBC got involved -very- early in the run.

In the end, a total of 104 "Astro Boy" was dubbed into English by Fred Ladd. In its native country, Astro Boy aired for a total of 193 episodes, so there are 89 episodes that American people never got to see.Brubakerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10741995395720022279noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3738012638904762739.post-66014755579441302782014-06-14T13:34:36.087-07:002014-06-14T13:34:36.087-07:00The Hercules cartoons didn't last very long in...The Hercules cartoons didn't last very long in afternoon prime-time on WPIX -- the station shuffled them off to their designated animation 'dead zone' of the early 1960s, the 11 a.m. to 12 noon hour where they were paired with the even-more-limited Mel-O-Toons efforts. The Paramount cartoons that did have a more extended life in the late afternoon kids hours were the King Features Syndicate trilogy (though I found the Gene Deitch-helmed Krazy Kat cartoons to be the overall best of that series, as much based on Gene following the George Herriman template than anything else).J Leehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15175515543694122729noreply@blogger.com
