He Let Him Have It

“Let me have it, pal,” says Spike to Drippy (who has been told not to let strangers in). So he does.

Mike Lah, Walt Clinton and Grant Simmons are the credited animators in Droopy’s Double Trouble (released in 1951), with gags by Rich Hogan and voices by Bill Thompson and Daws Butler. This is one of the weaker Droopys.

  1. As weak as it is, the drawings are still great as ever. This is Mike Lah's animation by the way.

  2. Lah must have loved the idea of Spike's Irish brogue -- Avery never used it again, but Lah used Bill Thompson's voice for the rechristened Butch in all four of his CinemaScope Droopys that featured both characters (even setting the final cartoon of the series in Ireland).

    1. J.L., I don't get it either. I guess Thompson needed a voice that didn't sound like stuff he had done before.
The last Lah cartoon makes little sense story-wise, but since it was written by Happy Homer, I'm not surprised.

    1. I can think of a pile of Droopys I like better than this one. And others have a different list than I do. So be it. Tex's work is being appreciated.

  4. I used to LOVE this cartoon as a kid. This one and WAGS TO RICHES are probably my favorites.

Who could resist a cartoon featuring the line "Why Spike, you can't be running around the house with no clothes on"?
